Local Natives

30 07 2010

So thanks to kyle, this is one of my new favorite indie rock bands.  Their debut album, Gorilla Manor came out in February of this year.  They have been been getting great reviews for this album, and  a bunch of play on my itunes. We can explain, they not good music, and they know how make great music.  It’s pretty difficult to describe they style, except for tossing the term “indie” infront of rock (if that makes sense?).  Anyway, just listen to the song below and decide if you like them.

Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

11 05 2010

This week has been pretty lame with music.  So I’ll just write up something about one of my favorite albums from last year.  Phoenix is a French Rock/Pop? band that just makes good music.  Their last album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix was amazing and critical acclaimed by almost everybody (and that may be an understatement). When there’s nothing I feel like listening to, its either Phoenix, The XX, Ratatat or The Octopus Project.

Listen if you never gave them a taste before.  If you listen to this album, you will listen to it straight through, without skipping one song – yea, its that good.  It’s like waking up and watching Saturday morning cartoons when your still in elementary school.

The Octopus Project

12 04 2010

So, I thought I would focus on one band for a week, give or take a few days until I get all the song i like out there.  At the end of the week ill toss a zip file of all the tracks i put on here So, now I turn my attention to The Octopus Project.  The members are:

  • Josh Lambert: guitar, bass, keyboards
  • Toto Miranda: drums, guitar, bass
  • Yvonne Lambert: keyboards, guitar
  • Ryan Figg: guitar, bass, keyboards

Quick Background check: They’re a very dope, indie/instrumental/electronic/synthesizer band from Austin TX.  They’ve been around for awhile and have dropped 3 albums, but havent gotten the same attention as similar bands like Ratatat (whom i love).

Their first album, Identification Parade came out in 2002.  This album doesn’t match there later 2 albums, BUT this has two amazing stand out songs (1) What They Found and (2) The Way Things Go.

The Octopus Project – What They Found

The Octopus Project – The Way Things Go

  • Josh Lambert: guitar, bass, keyboards
  • Toto Miranda: drums, guitar, bass
  • Yvonne Lambert: samplers, keyboards, theremin, glockenspiel, guitar
  • Ryan Figg: guitar, bass, keyboards
